BlackBerry seeks to make a positive impact in our communities, engaging the talents and resources of our people to generate meaningful, localized impacts. The Community Affairs strategy focuses on investing in strategic charitable partnerships, supporting employee charitable endeavours, and building community relationships in offices globally.
With an allocated charitable giving budget and community-minded employees, we believe there is great potential to make lasting impacts in our local communities.
For charitable organizations interested in requesting funding, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
With a focus on under-served youth, BlackBerry provides funding towards educational experiences that kids otherwise couldn’t access.
Operation School Bell
For the past 3 years, employees from BlackBerry’s California offices volunteered their time to support the Operation School Bell® Program run by the Assistance League of Amador Valley.
Operation School Bell provides new clothes, shoes and hygiene products to 400 disadvantaged school children in the Pleasanton, Dublin, and Livermore communities.
STEM Summer Camp Bursaries
In partnership with STEM summer camps across Canada and the US, BlackBerry provides bursaries for selected youth to attend one week of camp.
Waterloo Innovation Summit
BlackBerry is a supporter of the Waterloo Innovation Summit at the University of Waterloo. In 2016, we shifted our involvement from a pure sponsorship to an opportunity to engage students at the University of Waterloo in attending the summit.
Food & Nutrition
Providing food for families in need is a long-standing tradition at BlackBerry. BlackBerry has been a supporter of local food banks for over 30 years and cultivates new relationships each time we have new office locations.

Due to the nature of our products and software offerings, BlackBerry is often the primary method of secure communication during times of crisis. Our long history in supporting disaster relief efforts spans across decades and around the world. We’ve built a legacy of connecting and protecting the world, setting a standard for dependable communication. From Hurricane Katrina to the Nepal Earthquake to 9-11, and recent efforts that include the Alberta fires and Hurricane Matthew, BlackBerry and our global employees have responded with speed to provide funding, in-kind donations and volunteer time.
Employee Volunteer Support
BlackBerry supports employee efforts to give back through a set of employee programs that present several opportunities to support communities around the world through volunteerism and donation.
Employees are encouraged to organize and volunteer as teams during corporate time. This program aims to support 50 charities around the globe per year. Within the first month, more than 40 employees had volunteered 100 hours to support the universal hunger crisis.
The Holiday Giving Contest
This annual holiday campaign supports team work among employees and encourages them to give back to the community. This past holiday season, the program achieved a strong global participation rate with over 300 employees from 10 global operating locations donating $10,000 and over 1000 food and clothing items.
